Day 1: Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Riverside Charm and Arrivals
Arrival and Hotel Check-in
Touch down at Phnom Penh International Airport. Take a registered taxi or use a ride-hailing app like Grab to reach your hotel in the Daun Penh district. This area is central and highly stroller-accessible.
Lunch at Friends the Restaurant
Eat at this famous social enterprise restaurant. They offer a fantastic kid’s menu and the staff are incredibly welcoming to families. The tapas-style plates are great for sharing.
Sisowath Quay Stroll
Walk along the wide, paved riverside promenade. It is one of the most stroller-friendly spots in the city. Watch the boats on the Tonle Sap river and let the kids see the giant pigeons that gather near the shrines.
Riverside Dinner
Enjoy an early dinner at one of the many balcony restaurants overlooking the water. It's a great way to soak in the city lights without being stuck in the evening traffic.
Day 2: Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Royal Landmarks and City Parks
Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda
Visit the residence of the King. The manicured gardens are beautiful and easy to navigate. The Silver Pagoda, with its floor made of 5,000 silver tiles, is sure to impress older children. Note: Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered).
Lunch near the Palace
Stop at a local cafe for a relaxed lunch. Many spots nearby offer fresh fruit shakes, which are a perfect way to keep the kids hydrated and happy in the tropical heat.
Royal Palace Park
Across from the palace entrance is a large open plaza and park. It's a popular local hangout where kids can run around freely. You can buy birdseed from local vendors to feed the hundreds of pigeons.
Night Market (Phsar Reatrey)
Visit this open-air market by the river. Unlike some crowded markets, this one has a large carpeted area in the middle where families sit on the floor to eat street food while listening to live music.

Ferry to Koh Dach (Silk Island)
Take a short, exciting ferry ride across the Mekong to Silk Island. It feels worlds away from the city. You can hire a tuk-tuk on the island to show you around the traditional wooden stilt houses.

Silk Weaving Demonstration

Return to the city and head to this charming, clean alleyway. While famous for bars, it has several high-quality eateries that are quiet and family-appropriate in the early evening.
Day 4: Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Playtime and Iconic Monuments
Wat Phnom
Visit the birthplace of the city. This hilltop temple is surrounded by a park. While there are stairs, there is also a paved ramp. Just watch out for the monkeys—they are fun to look at but keep your snacks tucked away!
Central Market (Phsar Thmey)
Explore this stunning Art Deco building. The central dome is naturally cool, and you can find everything from souvenirs to clothing. It's a great place to teach kids about local commerce and bargaining.
Wat Botum Park Playground
This is arguably the best public playground in Phnom Penh. It has modern equipment and a safe, rubberized floor. It’s the perfect place for the kids to socialize with local Cambodian children.
Independence Monument
View this iconic landmark as it lights up at night. The surrounding fountains and parks are beautiful for a family photo and a gentle evening walk before dinner.
Day 5: Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Museums and Modern Comforts
National Museum of Cambodia
Housed in a beautiful terracotta building, the museum features a central courtyard garden that is incredibly peaceful. The artifacts are world-class, but the building itself is the real star for families.
Lunch at Bloom Cafe
A lovely spot known for its incredible cakes and coffee. It's air-conditioned and very comfortable for a mid-day break before your final afternoon of exploration.
AEON Mall Sothearos
For a dose of modern convenience, visit this world-class mall. It has excellent baby-changing facilities, an indoor playground (Kids Park), and a massive food court with something for even the pickiest eaters.
Mekong Sunset Cruise
End your trip with a sunset cruise. Most boats are safe for children and offer a unique perspective of the city skyline as the sun dips below the horizon.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Phnom Penh is during the dry season from November to February when temperatures are cooler and humidity is lower. This is ideal for walking with strollers and exploring parks. From March to May, it can get very hot, so plan indoor activities for the afternoon. The rainy season (June to October) often brings short, heavy bursts of rain in the afternoon, which are easy to manage if you time your museum visits or mall trips accordingly.
Currency & Money
Cambodia uses a dual-currency system: the US Dollar (USD) and the Cambodian Riel (KHR). ATMs dispense USD. Most businesses quote prices in USD, and you will often receive change in a mix of both currencies. Small denominations of USD are essential, but ensure they are crisp and clean, as torn bills are often rejected. Tipping is not mandatory but highly appreciated—rounding up the bill or leaving a small amount is standard practice for good service.
Getting Around
The most convenient way for families to get around is using the 'Grab' or 'PassApp' mobile apps to book tuk-tuks or cars. Remorques (the larger, carriage-style tuk-tuks) are great for families as they can fit a folded stroller and offer a breeze. For longer distances or during the heat of the day, booking an air-conditioned car through these apps is affordable and safer for young children. Walking is feasible along the riverside and in the central Daun Penh district.
