Day 1: Historic Core & Iconic Canals
Domplein and the Dom Tower
Start your journey at the literal center of the city. While climbing the tower costs money, standing in the Domplein square is free. Admire the Gothic architecture and look for the colored stones in the ground that mark the outlines of the original Roman fortress, Traiectum.
Oudegracht Wharf Walk
Utrecht's canals are unique because of their wharves. Descend the stairs from the street level to the water level. This is a public walkway where you can see the old cellar doors. It is the perfect spot for a budget picnic lunch while watching the boats go by.
Pandhof van de Dom

Wilhelminapark
Utrecht is full of greenery. Wilhelminapark is one of the grandest city parks, designed in the English landscape style. It’s a great place for a morning jog or a budget breakfast purchased from a local Albert Heijn supermarket.
Griftpark Animal Farm
Head to Griftpark, which features a city farm (kinderboerderij) that is free to the public. You can see goats, sheep, and pigs right in the middle of the city. The park also offers one of the best elevated views of the Dom Tower from its grassy hills.
Utrecht University Science Park Architecture
Take the tram to the Uithof (Science Park). It functions as a massive outdoor museum of contemporary architecture, featuring buildings by world-renowned architects like Rem Koolhaas. The walk around the campus is entirely free and visually stunning.

Currency & Money

Getting Around
