Best Time to Visit Tajikistan
The ideal time for this luxury journey is from late June to early September. This window ensures that the high-altitude mountain passes in the Pamirs are free of snow and the weather is pleasant for outdoor exploration. If you prefer the lush green valleys of the north, May and June are spectacular, though the highest Pamir passes might still be challenging.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Tajikistani Somoni (TJS). While high-end hotels and some restaurants in Dushanbe accept credit cards (Visa is preferred over Mastercard), Tajikistan is still largely a cash-based society, especially in the Pamir region. Tipping is appreciated in upscale establishments—usually around 10%—and it is customary to tip your private drivers and guides at the end of the trip.
Getting Around Tajikistan
For a luxury escape, the best way to travel between Dushanbe and Khujand or Khorog is via domestic flights operated by Somon Air. However, because flights can be delayed by mountain weather, a private 4x4 SUV (such as a Toyota Land Cruiser or Prado) with an experienced driver is the gold standard for traversing the Pamir Highway and the Fan Mountains safely and comfortably.
