Best Time to Visit Switzerland

For families, the best time to visit is during the shoulder seasons of June or September. During these months, the weather is mild enough for outdoor activities, all mountain transport is operational, and the summer crowds are thinner. If you enjoy winter sports, late December to March is magical, but be aware that navigating snowy streets with strollers can be challenging.

Currency & Money

The local currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). While Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, it is not in the EU and does not use the Euro (though some shops may accept it at a poor exchange rate). Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including for very small amounts. Tipping is not mandatory as a service charge is included in your bill, but rounding up to the nearest 5-10 CHF for excellent service is common.

Getting Around Switzerland

The Swiss Travel System is the gold standard of global transport. For this 14-day itinerary, a 15-day Swiss Travel Pass is highly recommended. It covers all trains, buses, and boats, and includes free entry to over 500 museums. Children under 6 travel for free, and children aged 6 to 15 travel for free with a parent if you have the 'Swiss Family Card' (available for free when purchasing your pass).
