Little India is one of Singapore’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, offering a sensory explosion of colors, scents, and sounds that are surprisingly family-friendly. This itinerary is designed for families who want to dive deep into Indian heritage while maintaining a relaxed pace that respects nap times and little legs. Most of the district is stroller-friendly, though the occasional high curb requires a quick lift.
Our Family Travel Guide approach ensures you see the classic sights—like the stunning Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple—without the stress of rushing. With a daily budget of USD 105, you'll enjoy incredible street food at Tekka Centre and explore interactive museums that keep children engaged with the history of the Indian diaspora in Singapore.
Day 1: Arrival and Cultural Immersion
Changi Airport Arrival
Touch down at the world's best airport and take a smooth, stroller-friendly taxi or private transfer directly to your hotel in Little India.
Lunch at Tekka Centre
Introduce the kids to mild biryani or buttery prata at this famous hawker center. It is loud and busy, but the food is authentic and very affordable.
Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple
Visit one of Singapore's oldest Hindu temples. The intricate colorful statues on the roof will fascinate children. Remember to remove shoes before entering.
Campbell Lane Stroll
Walk down this pedestrianized street to see flower garland weavers and souvenir shops without worrying about heavy traffic.
Day 2: Interactive History and Market Magic
Indian Heritage Centre
A modern, air-conditioned museum with interactive displays that are great for kids to learn about Indian culture through touchscreens and visual storytelling.
The Banana Leaf Apolo
Enjoy a classic meal where food is served on banana leaves. Kids usually find the 'natural plate' concept exciting and the non-spicy chicken is a hit.
Little India Arcade
Navigate the narrow walkways of this preserved 1920s building to find colorful silks, traditional jewelry, and sweet treats.
Jothi Store and Flower Shop
Watch skilled artisans create fragrant jasmine garlands. It’s a great spot for a quick cultural lesson on traditional offerings.
Day 3: Art, Murals, and Colorful Houses
House of Tan Teng Niah
Visit the last surviving Chinese villa in Little India. Its rainbow-colored walls are the perfect backdrop for family photos and very easy to access with a stroller.
Upper Dickson Road Murals
Follow an outdoor art trail to find large-scale murals depicting the history of the neighborhood. It’s a fun way for kids to burn off energy while sight-seeing.
Henna Art Experience
Let the children get a temporary henna tattoo (Mehendi) at one of the many stalls. It is a safe, traditional, and fun souvenir of their trip.
Dinner at Komala Vilas
Try traditional vegetarian South Indian cuisine. Their dosas (savory crepes) are thin, crispy, and a favorite for even the pickiest young eaters.
Day 4: Giant Shopping and Spiritual Lights
Mustafa Centre
Explore this 24-hour shopping giant. The toy department is legendary, and you can find everything from electronics to snacks under one roof.
Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple
Known as the Temple of 1,000 Lights, this Buddhist site features a giant 15-foot reclining Buddha that will leave the family in awe.
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple
A sprawling temple complex dedicated to Vishnu. The large courtyard allows for a bit more space for families to move comfortably compared to smaller shrines.
Farrer Park Greenery
A short walk to the edge of the district provides some open green space for kids to run around before dinner.
Day 5: Modern Comforts and Farewell
City Square Mall
Located on the edge of Little India, this mall is incredibly family-friendly with nursing rooms, a playground, and plenty of AC to escape the midday heat.
Farewell Lunch at Putien
Enjoy clean, light Fujian cuisine in a comfortable, family-oriented restaurant setting within the mall.
Last Minute Souvenir Hunt
Head back to Serangoon Road for any final spices, fabrics, or handicrafts you may have missed earlier in the week.
Evening Departure Preparation
Relax at your hotel before heading back to Changi. Ensure all your liquids and tax-free forms are ready for the airport.
Best Time & Weather
Singapore is hot and humid year-round, with temperatures consistently between 26°C and 32°C. The best time to visit Little India is during the morning (09:00 AM - 11:30 AM) or late afternoon to avoid the peak heat. If you visit during Deepavali (usually October or November), the streets are spectacularly lit up, though crowds will be much denser.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Singapore Dollar (SGD). While most malls and larger restaurants in Little India accept credit cards, many stalls in Tekka Centre and the Little India Arcade are cash-only. Tipping is not expected in Singapore as a 10% service charge is usually included in restaurant bills.
Getting Around
The best way to get around is the MRT (Mass Transit Railway). The Little India and Farrer Park stations serve the area perfectly. For families with strollers, the MRT is fully accessible with elevators at every station. For shorter trips, the Grab app is highly reliable and offers car seats if you book the 'GrabFamily' option.
