Day 1: Central Jakarta - Icons and Heritage
National Monument (Monas)
Start your trip at Jakarta's most famous landmark. The surrounding park is paved and perfect for strollers. Take the lift to the observation deck for a bird's eye view of the city, or explore the historical dioramas in the base of the monument which are comfortably air-conditioned.
Lunch at Grand Indonesia Mall
A short drive from Monas, this world-class mall offers a vast array of family-friendly dining options and excellent baby changing facilities. It is the perfect spot to escape the midday heat and enjoy a variety of Indonesian and international cuisines.
National Museum of Indonesia
Known locally as Museum Gajah, this museum features a courtyard filled with statues and fascinating cultural artifacts. The newer wing is very spacious and easy to navigate with a stroller, offering a cool environment to learn about Indonesia's diverse history.
Sarinah Department Store
End your first day at the newly renovated Sarinah. This historic building now features beautiful open terraces, local artisan markets, and a wide selection of family-oriented restaurants. The atmosphere is lively, often featuring live music in the evenings.
Day 2: North Jakarta - Coastal Fun and Sea Life
Sea World Ancol
Head north to the Ancol Dreamland complex. Sea World is an indoor, air-conditioned aquarium featuring a walk-through tunnel and touch pools. It is fully accessible and designed to keep toddlers and older kids captivated by the marine life.
Lunch at Bandar Djakarta
Located within the Ancol area, this famous seafood restaurant allows you to pick your fresh catch. It has a spacious, open-air setting by the water, which is great for families who need a little more room for kids to wiggle around.
Allianz Eco Park
Stay within Ancol to visit this green lung. You can rent family bicycles or take a gentle stroll through the park. There are areas for bird feeding and small boat rides that provide a peaceful break from the urban bustle.
Ancol Beach City
Cool down with a walk along the boardwalk as the sun sets. This area has numerous cafes and shops, offering a relaxed end to your day with sea breezes and plenty of space for the kids to run safely.
Day 3: East & South Jakarta - Culture and Comfort
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII)
This massive cultural park features full-scale traditional houses from every province in Indonesia. Use the cable car for a panoramic view of the park’s archipelago-shaped lake. Many of the pavilions have flat pathways suitable for strollers.
Skyworld TMII
Located inside the TMII complex, this space-themed park is a hit with children. It includes a planetarium and a water play area, making it a great spot for kids to burn off energy before the flight home.
Museum Komodo and Reptile Park
Also within TMII, this building is shaped like a giant Komodo dragon. The reptile park is well-maintained and offers a close-up look at Indonesia's famous lizards in a safe, controlled environment.
Pondok Indah Mall (PIM)
Finish your trip at one of South Jakarta's most family-centric malls. It features an indoor playground and is connected to a waterpark if you have extra time. The dining selection is enormous, ranging from quick snacks to sit-down family banquets.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Jakarta is during the dry season, which runs from June to September. During these months, the weather is sunny and predictable, making outdoor activities like Monas or TMII much more enjoyable. While Jakarta is humid year-round, visiting during the dry season avoids the heavy tropical downpours that can cause localized flooding and disrupt travel plans.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Credit cards are widely accepted in malls, hotels, and larger restaurants, but it is essential to carry some cash for smaller vendors, entrance fees at older attractions, and tipping. ATMs are plentiful throughout the city. Tipping is not mandatory but rounding up the fare for taxis or leaving a small amount in restaurants is common and appreciated.
Getting Around
For families, the most convenient way to get around is using ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek, which are very affordable. For a more premium taxi experience, Bluebird Taxis are highly reliable and use meters. Jakarta also has a modern MRT system in South and Central Jakarta which is clean and stroller-accessible, though it may not reach all tourist sites directly. Avoid traveling during peak rush hours (7-9 AM and 5-7 PM) to minimize time spent in traffic.
