Eindhoven is often celebrated as a hub of design and technology, but for those traveling with little ones, it reveals itself as a wonderfully accessible and welcoming city. This itinerary follows our Family Travel Guides philosophy: we focus on high-engagement activities for kids while ensuring parents can soak in the Dutch atmosphere without the stress of a packed schedule.
The city's flat landscape makes it a dream for stroller navigation, and the compact center ensures you spend more time playing and less time commuting. From the industrial-cool vibes of Strijp-S to the interactive history at the Philips Museum, this weekend escape balances education with pure, unadulterated fun.
Day 1: Eindhoven, Netherlands - Innovation and Industrial Charm
Philips Museum
Start your journey at the very spot where Gerard Philips produced his first light bulb. This museum is incredibly family-friendly, offering the 'Museum Kids' program and interactive exhibits that trace the history of lighting and electronics. It is fully stroller-accessible and located right in the heart of the city.
Down Town Gourmet Market
For a hassle-free lunch, head to this vibrant indoor food hall. With over 20 different cuisines, it is the perfect solution for picky eaters. The atmosphere is casual, there is plenty of room for strollers, and the communal seating makes for a relaxed family dining experience.
Strijp-S Discovery Stroll
Once a forbidden industrial complex, Strijp-S is now a creative playground. Walk through the 'Apparatenbuurt' to see the impressive industrial architecture. Kids will love the wide-open spaces and the urban vibes, while parents can enjoy a coffee at one of the many trendy, spacious cafes like Intelligentia Ice.
Dinner at Het Veem
Wrap up your first day at the Vershal Het Veem in Strijp-S. This fresh food market offers a variety of local snacks and meals. It’s a great spot to grab a high-quality, quick dinner in a space that doesn't mind a little bit of family noise.
Day 2: Eindhoven, Netherlands - History and Green Spaces
PreHistorisch Dorp
Travel back in time at this open-air museum. It’s a literal playground for history, where kids can learn to bake bread over a fire, try archery, or see how prehistoric people lived. The paths are generally manageable with a sturdy stroller, and the hands-on nature of the exhibits is a huge hit for all ages.
Stadswandelpark & Lunch
Take a short trip to this beautiful municipal park. It features a large lake, sculptures, and plenty of green lawns for a picnic. There is a great playground for the kids, and the park’s restaurant, Stadspaviljoen, offers a comfortable indoor space with a kid-friendly menu.
DAF Museum
Even if you aren't a gearhead, the DAF Museum is fascinating. It showcases the history of the famous Dutch vehicle manufacturer. The collection of vintage trucks and cars is visually stimulating for children, and there are several interactive displays designed for younger visitors.
Casual Dinner at De Vooruitgang
Located on the Market Square, this lively restaurant has a great atmosphere and an eclectic menu that caters to both adventurous and simple palates. Its central location makes it easy to head back to your hotel for an early bedtime.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Eindhoven with a family is from late April to September. During these months, the weather is mild enough for outdoor parks and walking between attractions. October is also a highlight due to the Dutch Design Week, though it can be much more crowded. Always pack a small umbrella or rain cover for the stroller, as quick Dutch rain showers are common year-round.
Currency & Money
The Netherlands uses the Euro (€). Eindhoven is a highly digital city, and you will find that 'pinning' (using a debit or credit card) is the standard everywhere, from museums to small cafes. Some places are actually card-only. While tipping is not mandatory, rounding up the bill at a restaurant by 5-10% is appreciated for good service.
Getting Around
Eindhoven is incredibly flat and bike-friendly, but for families, the bus system (operated by Hermes) is excellent and accommodates strollers easily. You can use 'OV-pay' to tap in and out with your contactless debit or credit card, making travel seamless. Most attractions in this itinerary are within a 15-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk from the city center.
