3-Day Family-Friendly Epic Journey Through Antalya
Antalya is the crown jewel of the Turkish Mediterranean, offering a seamless blend of Roman history and modern coastal luxury. This itinerary is part of our Family Travel Guides series, prioritizing accessible paths, kid-friendly parks, and a relaxed schedule that avoids the midday heat, ensuring an epic journey for parents and little ones alike.
We focus on the heart of the city and its immediate surroundings to minimize long transit times. From the charming cobblestones of the Old Town to the refreshing spray of cliffside waterfalls, you will find Antalya is remarkably accommodating for travelers with strollers and high energy demands.
Day 1: Antalya, Turkey - The Heart of History
Hadrian's Gate & Kaleiçi Exploration
Start your journey at the monumental Hadrian's Gate. This triple-arched Roman gate leads into the Old Town (Kaleiçi). While some side streets are cobbled, the main arteries are navigable with a stroller. Wander past Ottoman-era houses and colorful shops selling spices and local crafts.
Old City Marina & Glass Elevator
Walk down toward the historic marina. To avoid the steep stairs with a stroller, use the free panoramic glass elevator located near the Republic Square. The marina offers a stunning view of the Mediterranean and is a great spot for a relaxed lunch by the water.
Kaleiçi Boat Tour
Board a small, family-oriented boat from the marina for a 45-minute tour of the coastline. It’s a gentle ride that allows the kids to see the city walls from the sea and catch a glimpse of the Lower Düden Waterfalls without the long drive. Most crews are very helpful with boarding assistance.
Karaalioglu Park
End the day at this expansive, stroller-friendly park overlooking the Gulf of Antalya. There are several playgrounds, wide paved paths, and cafes where parents can enjoy a Turkish tea while children play. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the Taurus Mountains.
Day 2: Antalya, Turkey - Waterfalls and Sandy Shores
Upper Düden Waterfalls
Located in a lush park north of the city center, these falls offer a cool respite from the sun. The paths are mostly paved and stroller-accessible, though some cave areas have steps. The park has plenty of benches and space for kids to run around in the shade.
Lower Düden Waterfall Park
Head toward the Lara district to see where the Düden river plunges directly into the sea from a 40-meter cliff. The surrounding park is flat, paved, and features several vantage points that are easy to reach. It’s a spectacular photo opportunity for the whole family.
Lara Beach Relaxation
Lara Beach is famous for its soft sand and shallow waters, making it ideal for young children. Many beach clubs offer sunbeds, umbrellas, and clean changing facilities. Spend the afternoon building sandcastles and enjoying the warm Mediterranean water.
Sandland (Antalya Sand Sculpture Museum)
Located right on the Lara coast, this open-air museum features massive sculptures made entirely of sand. The themes change annually (often featuring mythology or space), and the lighting at night makes it a magical experience for children.
Day 3: Antalya, Turkey - Museums and Marine Life
Antalya Museum (Antalya Müzesi)
One of Turkey's most impressive museums, it is fully accessible and features a dedicated Children’s Section. The Hall of Gods and the Roman statues are world-class. It’s a great way to introduce kids to history in a spacious, air-conditioned environment.
Konyaaltı Beach Park Lunch
Just a short distance from the museum, the Beach Park area has been recently renovated with wide, flat boardwalks, green spaces, and dozens of cafes. It is incredibly stroller-friendly and offers plenty of healthy food options for kids.
Antalya Aquarium
Located near the Beach Park, this is home to one of the world's largest tunnel aquariums. It’s a major hit for families, providing an immersive underwater experience. The facility is modern, cool, and entirely accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.
Aktur Park (Amusement Park)
Finish your trip at this classic amusement park near the aquarium. It offers a variety of rides suitable for all ages, from carousels for toddlers to a giant Ferris wheel (Heart of Antalya) that provides panoramic views of the city lights.
Best Time & Weather
The best time to visit Antalya with a family is during the shoulder seasons of Spring (April to June) and Autumn (September to October). During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm (20°C to 26°C), avoiding the intense humidity and 40°C temperatures of July and August which can be difficult for small children. Winters are mild but can be rainy.
Currency & Money
The local currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). While credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and supermarkets, it is always wise to carry some cash for small purchases at local markets or for tipping. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; 10% at restaurants is standard for good service.
Getting Around
Antalya has an excellent public transport system. The Antray (tram) is modern, air-conditioned, and has level boarding, making it perfect for strollers. It connects the airport, the bus station, and the city center. For more flexibility, taxis are affordable and plentiful, but ensure they use the meter or agree on a price beforehand for longer distances.
